Long scarf – stitches 3 and 8

I had some bluish acrylic yarn purchased a while back from AC Moore – one of their usual 1 pound Mills End specials. Using a bamboo g hook, I thought I would make a scarf for the uKNITe project.  This scarf came out longer than I expected and it combines two very similar patterns. So that I do not have hundreds of rows, I broke it down into two parts – Pattern A (stitch 3) and Pattern B (stitch 8).

Foundation Chain 51 stitches

Pattern A:

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next st, *ch 3, skip 3, sc, repeat from * around until you get to last 2 st, sc in each of last 2 st. Turn

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 2 st, *ch3, skip ch3 loop, sc, repeat from * around until you get to last 2 st, sc in each of last 2 st. Turn

Rows 3-45: repeat Row 2 (I did not say this would be hard)

Pattern B:

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first 2 st, *ch3, skip ch3 loop, sc, repeat from * around until you get to last 2 st, sc in each of last 2 st. Turn (look familiar)

Row 2-5: Repeat row 1

Row 6: (now it gets a bit more difficult): Ch2, skip first 2 st, sl st in 3 ch space, *ch3, dc in next st (skipping over the ch3 space), ch 1, 3 sc around the dc post, sl st in next ch3 space, repeat from *. when you get to the last time you 3sc around the dc, sl st in the last 2sc. Turn

Row 7: Ch 4, *sc in ch-3 loop, ch3, skip over to next ch-3 loop, repeat from *, after you get to your final ch3, 2dc in final ch-2 space (which is the ch2 from the start of row 6. Turn

Row 8: Ch1, sc in each of 2 dc, *ch3, skip ch3 loop,sc in next st, repeat from *, end with sc in last sc and sc in the last ch-4 space.

Repeat rows 2-8 four more times

Repeat Pattern A for 25 rows.

Repeat Pattern B 5 times

Repeat Pattern A for 25 rows.

Repeat Pattern B 5 times

Repeat Pattern A for 44 rows

Ch 2 (counts as hdc), skip 1st st, *hdc in next sc and  3 hdc in each ch 3 space, repeat, ending with hdc in each of last 2 st . Turn (51 hdc)

Ch1, sc in next 50 st, 3sc in 51st st, (don’t turn)

sc down long side of scarf with 1 sc for each row;  when you get to the Pattern B sections, 2sc in the dc’s. end with 3 sc in last st.

sc in each st across bottom of last row at the corner, 3sc, sc along remaining long side just as before, 3 sc in corner, sc across final side, 2sc in corner. Fasten off and weave in any ends.

Here are photos of the finished product and the yarn with a close up on the pattern B section. The scarf measured about 64 inches.
