Jewels but not bedazzled – stitch 31

I am taking a break from another baby blanket that I am making. I have gotten a bit behind on the gift bags that I make so I thought I would try to make a quick one.

As usual I am using cotton yarn. This time its Sugar ‘n Cream brand by Lily. The color is called Jewels (color 102002). The yarn calls for an H hook.

I started with a magic circle of 5 sc.

I then increased each row until there were 25 sc in total.

Row 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st at end (25 sc)

Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st at end (25 sc)

Row 3: ch 1, sc in each st around sl st at end (25 sc)

Row 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc), skip 1st st, dc around, sl st to join with initial ch-3.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in 1st st, *ch 2, skip next dc, sc in the space between the next 2 dc, repeat from *, sc in last dc, sl st to join to 1st sc.

Row 6: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in each of the ch-2 spaces (you skip over all of the other st in this row) BUT only 1 dc in the last ch-2 space, dc in the last sc, sl st to join with initial ch-3.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc in the 1st dc, ch2, sc in the space between the dc (not the ch 3) and the pair of dc’s (so the sc is not going between the 2 dc’s, but between each pair), *ch 2, sc in the between the 2dc pairs, repeat from* across, sc in the last dc, sl st to join.

Rows 8 -13: Repeat rows 6 and 7 three times.

Row 14: ch 1, sc in that same st,  1 sc in each ch-2 space all around. ssl st to join.  (25 st)

Row 15: ch 1, sc in next 3 sc, create a 20 ch foundation single crochet (see this video for instructions)  for the first handle but start it by making only 1 ch and use the last sc that you made as the other ch, skip 6 st, sc in the next 6 st, create a 20 ch foundation single crochet for the other handle but start it by making only 1 ch and use the last sc that you made as the other ch, skip 6 st, sc in final 4 st. sl to to join. Fasten off.

Here it is,
