I wanted to make one last gift bag so I would return some empty canning jars to a friend this weekend. Instead of opening up another ball of cotton year, I decided to use some from my stash.
While flipping through my book of stitches, I came across number 47, which was interesting in that what making this pattern, there were multiple turns in the middle of the row.
I used some of the cotton yarn that I had leftover from this project and an H hook (5 mm – I really should start using the size in mm and not the letters).
I started this project like I do most other gift bags that I make as follows:
Start with a magic circle of 5 sc.
I then increased each row until there were 25 sc in total.
Row 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st at end (25 sc)
Row 2: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st at end (25 sc)
Row 3: ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), skip 2 st, dc in next 3 st, ch 5, turn, sl st in the ch-1 space, ch 3, turn, sc in the middle of the ch-5 space, ch 3, sl st in the last dc before the ch-5, * ch 3, skip 3 ch, dc in next 3 dc, ch 5, turn, sl st in the ch-3 space, ch 3, turn, sc in the middle of the ch-5 space, ch 3, sl st in the last dc, repeat from *, end with ch 1, dc, sl st to join.
Row 4: Ch 6 (counts as dtr which is the double treble stitch, ch 1), *dc in the ch-3, ch 3, dc in the ch-3 on the other side of the sc, ch 2, skip over the ch 3 space, repeat from *, end with ch 1, dtr, sl st to join.
Row 5: repeat Row 3
Row 6: repeat Row 4
Row 7: repeat row 3
Row 8: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch 1 space, *sc in dc, 2sc in ch-3 space, sc in dc, 2 sc in ch-2 space, repeat from * ending with sc in ch 1 space and sc in turning chain (26 st).
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first 3 st, make a 20 st sc foundation chain (just like the prior post) for the first handle but start it by making only 1 ch and use the last sc that you made as the other ch, skip 6 st, sc in next 7 st, create a 20 ch foundation single crochet for the other handle but start it by making only 1 ch and use the last sc that you made as the other ch, skip 6 st, sc in final 4 st. sl to to join. Fasten off.
The end result….
