Tri-Handle? (Stitch 423)

I have several gift bags/jar holders to make. This one used Stitch 423, which is another stitch that calls for a “dropped stitch”.  I used my Takumi bamboo hook size I hook (5.5mm) and Premier Home cotton yarn color Woodland (no. 44-33).

I started with a magic circle with 4 sc in it and the used a sl st to join it.

Row 1: ch1, 2sc in each sc, sl st to join (8 st)

Row 2: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from *, sl st to join (12 st)

Row 3: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, sc in next, 2 sc in next sc, *sc in next st, sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from *, sl st to join (16 st)

Rows 4-5: keep increasing each round to get to 24 st

Rows 6-7: ch 1, sc in each st around (24 st)

Now to start the pattern itself:

Row 8: Ch 3 (counts as dc),  skip 1st st, 3dc in next st, ch2, skip 6 st, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in next st, ch2, skip 6 st, (3 dc ch 1 3 dc) in next st, skip 6 st, 3 dc in the next to last st, dc in last st, sl st to join.

Row 9: Ch 3 (counts as dc), skip 1st st, 3dc in next st, ch2, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in the ch 1 space, ch2, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in the ch 1 space, ch2, 3 dc in the last dc of the 3dc in the prior row, dc in last st, sl st to join.

Row 10: Ch 3 (counts as dc), skip 1st st, 3dc in next st, ch1, sl st over the two ch-2 spaces below, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in the ch 1 space, ch1, sl st over the two ch-2 spaces below, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) in the ch 1 space, sl st over the two ch-2 spaces below, ch 1, 3 dc in the next to last st,  dc in the last st, sl st to join.

Rows 11-13: repeat rows 8 -10

You can continue to repeat the pattern if you want. I stopped after completing the series twice.

Now for the handles. I called this project the “tri-handle” because I decided to make 3 handles instead of 2. The tops of the arches lent themselves well to where I could put the handles without making the opening too narrow for the jar. Here is what I did:

ch 1, crochet a 12-st chainless foundation chain, sc in the ch 1 space in the next arch, ch 1, crochet a 12-st chainless foundation chain, sc in the ch 1 space in the next arch, h 1, crochet a 12-st chainless foundation chain, sl st to join to start of 1st handle. Fasten off.

Here are photos of the final product.
