Challenge Accepted – NSFW

When I gave a friend the hat I made for her, another friend made a comment about making him something to keep his privates warm. We joked about size and I pointed out that I have metal needles for crocheting smaller objects. That evening, I decided to search the internet for the appropriate pattern and, lo and behold, I found one.

Because I was not sure how this was going to turn out, I wanted to stick to the pattern as close as possible. I was limited in the yarns in my current stash that need an I hook as instructed by the pattern.I used acrylic yarn, Premier Yarns, Sweet Roll series in the color Ice Pop (no. 1047-20)- which you may recognize from this project. In the off chance I have to make another, I will probably use a smaller hook and a different color yarn. I will admit that the phrase “blue balls” will come up in reference to this project once completed. I even started it using the double magic ring as suggested.

Also, I made the shaft  a bit smaller than the author of the pattern did. I made it only 7 inches long. One could make it as long as short as desired. (Let’s just leave that thought there without any commentary).

When making the sack, I added three more rows before the decrease row. It looked too small otherwise. Also, when I finished the sack, I did not fasten off. Instead, I turned the piece so that the stitch where I ended would be at the back of the project. I used the leftover yarn from the shaft and a yarn needle to attack the shaft to the sack. Then without having to attach more yarn, I started the three final rows of sc around the entire project from where I left off making the sack.

To finish it off, for the drawstring, I used some of the navy blue yarn from this project  – two 18 inch strands, which is out through every 2 stitches or so. I strung the ends through a plastic bead and then added scotch tape to the ends to lessen the likelihood of the drawstring fraying,

Here is the final project.
