I could not decide which pattern to use for this next gift bag. So, I decide to make something up based on a pattern I used many, many years ago (back when I first started to crochet) for a bag.
I used Peaches & Creme cotton yarn in the variegated color Hampton Twists. This yarn calls for an h hook.
Here is what I did:
Start with a magic circle of 5 sc. (NB: no sl st to join at the end of each row)
Row 1: 2 hdc in each stitch around (10 st)
Row 2: *hdc, 2hdc, repeat from * around (15 st)
Row 3: *hdc, hdc, 2hdc, repeat from * around (20 st)
Row 4: *hdc, hdc, hdc, 2hdc, repeat from * around (25 st)
Rows 5-6: hdc in each st around (25 st)
Row 7: *chain 5, skip 3 st, sc, repeat from *. When you get to the beginning of the row, move on to Row 8.
Row 8 and beyond: sc in the ch-5 space, ch 5, sc in the next ch-5 space, keep going around and around until you reach the height that you want. I went around about 6 times
Next to last row: chain 3, *3sc in the next ch-5, ch 1, repeat from * around. When you get to the start of the row, put only 2 sc in that ch-5 space (25 sc)
Last row: sc in first 13 st (incl ch-1 spaces), ch20, skip 11 st, sc in 12th st, sc in each st of ch-20, sc back around to starting point. Fasten off.
Here is a photo of the end result. It only used 17 grams of yarn.
